Agave montana (named for the Spanish word for mountains, not the state of Montana) is a non-offsetting species that forms an extremely dense rosette of very broad, uniform leaves giving the plant the look of a gigantic artichoke. These invincible looking plants top out at 3-4 feet tall and 4-5 feet across. The broad, flat, bright green to dark green, dagger shaped leaves spiral around the center of the plant, giving it the look of a weapon conceived by aliens after visiting medieval England. Some of the most striking forms have a silvery blue frosting on the leaves that really show off the bud prints.
