Description

Agave gypsicola was described in 2019 by Abisai Garcia-Mendoza. It comes from the state of Oaxaca and grows exclusively on gypsum soils. Seed was made available shortly after its description. Garcia-Mendoza placed this species in the “group”, now section, Choritepalae along with Agave bracteosa from Nuevo Leon, Agave ellemeetiana, from Oaxaca and Veracruz, and Agave guiengola from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca.
