Ariocarpus agavoides


Ariocarpus agavoides is, perhaps the smallest species in the genus, and one of the slowest growing. The dark green tubercles resemble agave leaves which gives rise to its species name. 1.5 inch wide, magenta flowers appear in the fall.

Ariocarpus agavoides has a greenish brown body with tubercles resembling agave leaves, hence the species name, and magenta flowers in the fall. This one is restricted to limestone hills in southern Tamaulipas with a newly found population in San Luis Potosi.
