Astrophytum ornatum subspecies mirabelli is a beautiful plant that has very dense flecking when young. As the plant grows and stretches, the flecking becomes more diffuse, revealing more of the green body. Occasionally the flecking will create an intriguing V-pattern or “Chevron” stripes as seen in the larger, potted plant in the gallery.

Astrophytum ornatum subsp. mirabelli differs from regular A. ornatum in its very dense flecking on the body. The flecking does become more diffuse as the plant grows to reveal more of the green body. Plants have the same large, yellow flowers.
