Echinocereus bonkerae


Echinocereus bonkerae is considered by some to be the rarest species of Echinocereus in Arizona. It can be found in a small area in central and southeastern Arizona. Plants are easy to grow and do well in decorative containers. It is quite distinctive with its short, bristly spines and large, deep magenta pink-purple flowers that appear in spring creating quite a floral display.

Echinocereus bonkerae grows in scattered populations in central and southeastern Arizona and forms a small cluster of short, columnar stems to about 6-8 inches tall. Clusters can get up to 10-12 inches across. Striking, magenta purple flowers appear in spring.
