This clustering type of Echinocereus is from the Bradshaw Mountains of central Arizona, and is sometimes referred to as E. coccineus var. melanacanthus. The flowers are generally a bright orange-red, have a narrow tube with the tepals flaring wide open. These are quite cold hardy and very tolerant of harsh desert conditions.
