Another mystery in the world of Echinocereus revolves around E. fitchiiE. pectinatus and E. reichenbachii including the subspecies armatus. Originally, this plant was considered to be a variety of Cereus pectinatus, was later moved to a variety of Echinocereus reichenbachii, then moved to a subspecies of E. fitchii, but apparently the accepted name is Echinocereus reichenbachii subspecies armatus. Regardless of the name, the extra large, deep magenta-pink flowers are incredible! This subspecies is found only in Huasteca Canyon outside of Monterrey, Mexico.
