Description

Ferocactus californicus is thought by some to be a hybrid between Ferocactus peninsulae and F. rectispinus, but the plants appear to be very uniform, so it could very well be a stabilized species. Regardless of its status, the spines are very stout. The central spines is deeply curved and there are two white radial spines that stand out from the others. Plants occur near Loreto in Baja California Sur.
