Ferocactus rectispinus – 3-inch

Description

Ferocactus rectispinus is sometimes regarded as a subspecies of Ferocactus emoryi, but I maintain it as a distinct species. These are found in the mountains of the central part of the Baja California peninsula, straddling both states. Plants have the longest spines on any Ferocactus species, with some reaching up to 10 inches long. Mature plants can reach over 6 feet tall. Deep red flowers grace the tops of the plants in summer.
