Thelocactus heterochromus


Thelocactus heterochromus has a solitary body growing to 3-4 inches tall and 4-6 inches across. The body is green with big, rounded tubercles and few spines. Large, 3-4 inch wide, magenta flowers have a red throat and appear repeatedly throughout late spring and summer.

Thelocactus heterochromus forms a single, globose stem to about 3-4 inches tall and 4-6 inches across. It has big, rounded tubercles, few spines and large (2-3 inch wide), magenta purple flowers that are produced several times from spring through summer. This is the westernmost species of Thelocactus, being found in Chihuahua and Durango, mostly on limestone hills between 4200-7200 feet elevation.
